University of California, San Diego | Sulpizio Family Cardiovascular Center SPRING 2006 | volume 3

Summary: University of California, San Diego | Sulpizio Family Cardiovascular Center
SPRING 2006 | volume 3
Cardiovascular News
On January 19, 2006, the University of California Board of Regents approved the
construction of a new state-of-the-art Cardiovascular Center (CVC). Bringing together
UCSD's patient care, clinical research and teaching
activities in heart and vascular disease and stroke
management, this new facility will be located adjacent
to Thornton Hospital on UCSD's East Campus
medical complex. Emergency cardiovascular and
stroke services will continue to be provided at the
UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest.
"We are proud to serve San Diego as its only
academic medical center, delivering innovative care
and improving the prevention, diagnosis and
treatment of disease for all patients," says UCSD Chancellor Marye Anne Fox. "This project
will allow us to respond to the health needs of our growing community, and further strengthen
our clinical and research programs in cardiovascular disease, a major public health issue."
The UCSD Cardiovascular Center Board has raised $30 million to support the CVC. This
includes a $10 million leadership gift from San Diegans Richard and Maria (Gaby) Sulpizio
