Course Description: This is graduate-level studio course that facilitates professional artistic
development through advanced projects and investigations in painting.
Course Objectives: This course is designed as a self-directed inquiry into varied approaches in
painting, both representational and/or non-representational. You may work in the painting
mediums of your choice. Emphasis will be placed on creativity, expression, and technical skill.
Development of a strong work ethic and the ability to think clearly and speak articulately about
your own work and the work of others is emphasized.Focus will be placed on contemporary art
and the development of an understanding of the aesthetic and philosophical context in which
artists work today. Relevant art history examples will be discussed in conjunction with the
scheduled day trips; as well as issues and methods in contemporary painting.
