Abstract
This paper describes experiments to investigate
the flow structure at the wall region of a Circu
lating Fluidized Bed (CFB). A highspeed video
camera is used to visualize the flow structure
through a transparent silica section. The us
age of an image intensified camera makes it
necessary to preprocess the images. The im
age sequences show that there is no homoge
nous flow of solids downward. To investigate the
flow structure two di#erent methods to estimate
the velocity of the structures automatically are
used. One method is gradientbased and the re
sult is a twodimensional field of velocities that
