Abstract
This paper describes experiments to investigate
the flow structure at the wall region of a Circu­
lating Fluidized Bed (CFB). A high­speed video
camera is used to visualize the flow structure
through a transparent silica section. The us­
age of an image intensified camera makes it
necessary to preprocess the images. The im­
age sequences show that there is no homoge­
nous flow of solids downward. To investigate the
flow structure two di#erent methods to estimate
the velocity of the structures automatically are
used. One method is gradient­based and the re­
sult is a two­dimensional field of velocities that
