Applications are invited for the position of Head of the Department of Medicine at Queen's University,
Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital and Providence Care, which are fully affiliated teaching
hospitals. We are searching for an academic physician with proven administrative experience and
leadership skills who is engaged in the practice of medicine and who, as Head, will draw on strong
interpersonal and organizational skills to develop and manage teams that will foster excellence in
teaching, patient care and research within the Department and the region. The qualified applicant must be
eligible for licensure in Ontario.
With a complement of 80 full-time plus 80 part-time faculty, the Department of Medicine includes the
Divisions of Allergy and Immunology, Cardiology, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Gastroenterology,
Geriatric Medicine, General Internal Medicine, Haematology/Oncology and Ethics, Infectious Disease,
Nephrology, Neurology, Palliative Medicine, Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and Rheumatology.
The Department works collaboratively to provide a broad range of medical services for the greater
Kingston area and, in the case of more specialized services, to the Southeastern Ontario region and
beyond including Moose Factory. The Department contributes to undergraduate medical education
through didactic lectures, instructing problem-based learning along with basic and expanded clinical skills
groups, and supervising clinical clerkships. In addition to offering full residency programs in general
internal medicine and core and sub-specialty residency training programs in cardiology, gastroenterology,
