The Georgia Gerontology Consortium
Gerontology education and faculty development throughout
the University System of Georgia have not been given the attention
they deserve. If the projected rapid increase in older adults for the
State of Georgia during the 21st century is accurate, we will be sadly
behind in the training of professionals to meet the needs and demands
of that population.
Within the University System of Georgia, we are fortunate to
have several renowned research and training programs in gerontology.
We also have had successful preliminary collaborative experiences in
aging programs across Georgia universities and medical centers, such
as the Georgia Consortium on the Psychology of Aging. However,
the magnitude, depth, and quality of teaching, research, and outreach
