Summary: Terms of reference and membership for Committees of Council
Note: In accordance with Ordinance 2.12.1(3) the Chair of Council and the Vice- Chancellor are ex- officio
members of every Committee of the Council.
Extract from the Standing Orders of Council, September 2010 (Standing Order 20):
`The quorum for each committee, board or sub- committee of the Council or joint committees of Council
and Senate shall be not less than one third of the total number of members, plus one.'
Standing Committee of Council
Terms of reference
(i) To act on behalf of Council between meetings of Council, and to report on all major decisions so
taken.
(ii) Where necessary, to authorize action in relation to individual personnel matters, and to individual
contractual and financial matters within agreed University policy and budgets.
(iii) To undertake such other duties as Council may decide.

The Chair of Council (in the Chair)
The Vice- Chair of Council
The Vice- Chancellor
The Treasurer
The Provost and Deputy Vice- Chancellor
Note The Registrar and Chief Operating Officer and the Chief Financial Officer will normally be present at
