YEAR IN REVIEW
2002-2003
In September of 2002, Paul Cheney was named permanent Chair of the department by
Executive Dean Barbara Atkinson. In connection with his appointment, the department
received a generous enhancement package.
Overall, 2002-2003 was an outstanding year in which the department continued to excel
in education, research and service. Although down from the previous year, research funding in
the departmentremained strong at 5.2 million (total costs) in NIH funds (source: NIH Website).
