Job Announcement: Issues and Controversies
The Student Activities Board is seeking to employ qualified, currently enrolled undergraduate student who is
enthusiastic, hard-working and committed to coordinating inclusive and engaging campus programs. The SAB consists of
seven (7) student positions: Chair, Marketing & Outreach Coordinator, and 5 event programmers. All positions
participate in team meetings & leadership trainings throughout the year; work with members of other student
organizations, as well as students not actively involved; and with faculty, staff and departments to provide optimal
service and events for UW Tacoma students.
Position: The Issues & Controversies position shall be responsible for coordinating programming with a core focus on
current issues, challenges & hot topics both locally & globally. Past examples include: immigration, human trafficking,
decriminalization of marijuana, and the environment.
Responsibilities
- Attend and actively participate in SAB hosted programs.
- Coordinate and plan the following campus events:
o Tunnel of Oppression (in conjunction with Diversity and Intercultural Awareness programmer)
o Awareness Month Events (ex: Breast Cancer Awareness, Black History Month, Women's History Month)
o Earth Day on April 22, 2012
o Additional programs/events that enhance UW Tacoma campus awareness of current issues
- Work at least six hours in the SAB office per week.
- Meet weekly with Student Program Specialist to discuss upcoming programs/events.
