Holger Hermanns studied at the University of Bordeaux I, France, and at the
University of Erlangen-Nšurnberg, Germany, where he received a Diploma in
Computer Science in 1993, and a Dr.-Ing. degree in 1998. From 1998 to 2001
he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Twente, the Netherlands,
holding an associate professor position since October 2001. Since 2003 he is a
professor at Saarland University, Germany, holding the chair for Dependable
Systems and Software. Areas of expertise of the chair include modelling for-
malisms for stochastic systems, verification techniques, tools and applications.
The chair closely cooperates with the Max-Planck-Institute for Computer Sci-
ence in Saarbršucken. Together with the latter, and with colleagues from the
Universities of Oldenburg, Freiburg and Saarbršucken, the group is a founding
member of the recently established Transregional Collaborative Research Cen-
tre Sonderforschungsbereich SFB/TR 14 AVACS ­ Automatic Verification and
Analysis of Complex Systems funded by the DFG.
Holger Hermanns has published more than 70 scientific papers, has served on
various organising and programme committees, and has authored or co-edited
four volumes of the LNCS series of Springer-Verlag. He is the holder of several
research grants. In June 2001 Holger Hermanns received the Dutch award for
innovative research 'Vernieuwingsimpuls'.
