Faculty Award

To recognize one faculty member annually, who has
demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and/or service. Their
service can be to his/her discipline, the University, involvement with
students, and/or University community involvement.

Barry received his Bachelors, Masters of Science, and Doctorate
in Electrical Engineering from the School of Engineering and
Applied Science here at UVa in 1979, 1980, and 1983 respectively.
He worked for a short time after receiving his Doctorate for the
Harris Corporation before joining the SEAS' faculty in 1984 and
then quickly rose through the ranks to full professor in 1994.
Professor Johnson is a model faculty member having been
recognized by the State Council on Higher Education in Virginia
as a superb teacher. He has an outstanding record as a
researcher and advisor to graduate students in safety critical
