Fabrication and Characterization of Integrated Dielectric Waveguide Lasers
Introduction
Rare-earth doped double tungstates such as KY(WO4)2:Yb, have been shown to be excellent
laser materials, which would be useful for a wide range of applications in integrated optics
(e.g. telecommunication, portable devices and airborne or space equipment). For practical
realization in integrated circuits the light must be confined in two directions by realizing a
channel waveguide structure, which can then be used to guide the light and perform multiple
functions on-chip.
