To Members of the University Community,
The UVA Retirement Administrative Committee recently completed a review of our retirement
programs in light of new federal regulations that require greater oversight of investments and
administration of retirement plans. We are pleased to announce that beginning in October 2011, we will
be enhancing our retirement program and investment line up. The University believes that changing its
current structure will help to meet these recent regulations as well as deliver greater value to you.
What are the changes?
There are two significant changes happening in October. First, we will be enhancing our investment
menu at Fidelity in order to provide funds with overall lower costs. In retirement investment options,
this is referred to as a lower share class. These lower share class changes will be available in early
October 2011.
Secondly, we will be modifying our relationship with Vanguard Retirement Services. As of October 19,
Fidelity Investments and TIAA-CREF will be our only approved retirement providers. Going forward, if
you have invested with Vanguard, you will be able to keep these funds within the Fidelity Investments
platform instead of through separate accounts at Vanguard. Because 96% of the current Vanguard
