Summary: Attempting to change that conventional
order, the coalition is introducing design
projects at the outset ?nd weaving math,
basic science, engineering science, multidis-
ciplinary, and humanities courses through-
out the four-year program [see figure],
In all, the coalition has some 70 projects
in various stages of preparation. Several of
them are aimed at attracting a steady sup-
ply of qualifieddegree candidates-filling the
pipeline, in coalitionparlance-by reaching
out to precollege students. Other modules
are aimed at teaching teachers-preparing
tech classrooms.
Still others cover traditional en-
gineering subjects that aretransformed
accordingto Synthesis Coalitiontenets.
For example, Logic Synthesis teaches
logicsystemdesign and rapid prototyp-
