Abstract
Continuous mesh adaptation models can be derived from a priori error estimates. For a class of
approximations, these estimates are expressed in terms of interpolation errors. We show it for
P1-Galerkin-based schemes useful in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Applications to mesh
adapted steady Euler compressible supersonic flow are presented.
Key Words: mesh adaptation, a priori error, compressible flow
1 INTRODUCTION
With modern "controlled" mesh generators, is it pos-
sible to build automatically a mesh that conforms with
a precise prescription of mesh density and stretch-
ing. The present paper is concerned with the choice of
error-based criteria for specifying the adapted mesh.
