Single and Double Pulse Linearity Studies

Abstract
Linear response to light intensity over a wide range is important for the PMTs to be used in HF
calorimeter. Response of the PMTs from three different manufacturers has been studied. We have
determined the range of intensities where each tube displays a linear behavior. Linearity tests have
been done with single and double light pulses on the candidate tubes.
1 Introduction
Calorimeters extract energy information mostly through processing the pulses coming from the phototubes. Ef-
ficient and reliable operation of a calorimeter depend on phototubes that are linear over a wide range of light
intensities.
