Abstract. We have analyzed the progressive changes in
the spatial distribution of telomeres during meiosis us-
ing three-dimensional, high resolution fluorescence mi-
croscopy. Fixed meiotic cells of maize (Zea mays L.)
were subjected to in situ hybridization under conditions
