Using Appreciative inquiry to Chart the Future of the School of nursing

appreciating our human capital
Who are We When We are at our beSt? This question is a key underpinning of the
Appreciative Inquiry (AI) process featured in this issue of Legacy. We are the first school at the
University of Virginia to hold a strategic planning summit using AI, and I'm grateful to the UVA Health
System for its wisdom in creating the Center for Appreciative Practice and embracing our School in its
mission. You will read about how our whole School was engaged in two days of planning. The talent
and ideas are all here, and this process is a natural fit with my original goal of creating and sustaining
a healthy work environment where all can flourish.
Another important goal has been to strengthen our collaborations across UVA and within the
Health System, so I'm delighted to see increasing numbers of partnerships and interprofessional
