Discussion of Departmental VLPA/I&S requirement policies
Bio Engineering
The department does have a policy, but has not yet sent it to COE. A course review is underway,
with plans to address the issue with BioE courses.
Chemical Engineering
Had had full reliance on VLPA & I&S to meet criteria. Has created a matrix for all courses (required
and elective) which states how they meet ABET outcomes. The capstone design courses (485, 485,
497) includes work that fits global and societal context.
The department is still working on the plan, and it will be fully implemented next year.
Electrical Engineering
The curriculum includes a number of required courses which in combination provides broad
impact of engineering solutions.
Industrial Engineering
The department offers two required courses: Introduction to Manufacturing Systems (IE 337) and
the Senior Design Sequence (IE 494 and 495) that cover global implications of manufacturing. The
