ON THE SELF-SIMILAR ZERO-VISCOSITY LIMIT FOR A
BOUNDARY RIEMANN PROBLEM
CLEOPATRA CHRISTOFOROU AND LAURA V. SPINOLO
Abstract. We consider the self-similar, time dependent approximation of an
initial-boundary value problem with Riemann data. We furnish a complete
description of the boundary Riemann solver induced in the limit and we com-
pare it with the boundary Riemann solver induced by the classical vanishing
viscosity approximation.
1. Introduction and main results
We are concerned with a family of equations with time-dependent artificial vis-
cosity in the form
tU + x[F(U)] = t 2
xxU. (1.1)
