EMC News - It's something that many of us are guilty of taking for granted until we need it, but
health care has a history that is rich in value and vital to our culture. This year, Kingston's
Museum of Health Care celebrates 20 years of educating Canadians on the last 250 years of
medicine and treatment in their country.
Executive Director Dr. James Low was one of the founders of the museum.
"If you want to understand health care, you need to understand its history," he says. "(Before
us) there wasn't a mission specific health care museum in Canada, which is unusual in relation
to other Western countries."
Low notes that many previous attempts to establish a museum dedicated to health care at
different universities and hospitals across Canada ultimately failed due to lack of funds.
