ARGD 4120 :: Introduction to Graphic Design
This course will explore the basic terminology, methodologies, and techniques used in graphic design.
We will also focus on image creation and basic digital image editing for use in solving visual communication
problems. Students will explore the computer as a design tool including a introduction to the Adobe Creative
Suite software Indesign and Photoshop. Students will begin with a series of basic skill-building exercises
them move on to applied design problems considering our surroundings.
ARGD 4130 :: Advanced Graphic Design in Italy
This course focuses on investigation of image creation through digital photography and within the context
of larger visual communication problems. Emphasis will be placed on concept, message and narrative while
investigating the relationship of text and image. Graphic communication which transcends language and cultural
difference will be explored. Students will produce a series of thought-provoking graphic design projects.
prerequisite: ARGD 2010 + 3030 or equivalent if approved by instructor
Class meetings consist of lecture/presentation, critique (group + individual), research and supervised work.
Final grade will be based on participation and contribution to class activities, discussions, critiques,
attendance, as well as evaluation of final projects.
Projects will be evaluated on concept [overall design direction & layout], execution [craftsmanship and
presentation] and process [evidence of extensive investigation and exploration]
