Summary: Message from the President January / February 2010
We all have the power to change lives for the better through our actions, our words and our
decisions. There are many opportunities for each of us to make a difference in the world around
us in our own lives and in the lives of others. We can recycle, get involved in a community
group or project, coach our children's team, or volunteer to teach literacy skills. We can comfort
those who are alone or isolated simply by visiting them or listening. We can decide to make a
personal commitment to an issue, and get involved in making positive change. Or, we can simply
learn more about an issue so that we can make informed decisions.
The University of Regina tries to make a difference by educating students so they can tackle the
complexproblems in our world. We are creating new knowledge through our research and
sharing that knowledge with others in our community. That's how we create change.
Many people in our University community our students, staff, faculty and alumni are trying
to make the world a better place. It's clear there are many ways that we can and do make a
difference. Often, it's as simple as a smile, an act of kindness, a show of respect, or words of

areas. We are striving to be more welcoming and student-focused. And we need to connect to the
issues of today but stay rooted in our history. We, too, want to create a better world through
word and action.
