Textbook. M. Auslander, I. Reiten, and S.O. Smalø, Representation Theory of Artin Algebras, Cambridge
Studies in Advanced Mathematics no. 36, Cambridge University Press, 1995.
Course outline. The main content of the course will be from Chapters I­VII of the textbook. Additional
topics to be covered will be determined later in the semester--some possibilities include hereditary algebras,
highest weight categories, Koszul duality, or tilting modules.
Homework. Homework exercises will be due approximately once every two weeks. All the homework
exercises will be posted on my webpage. It is likely that not every homework question will be graded.
Exams. There will be no timed exams. In lieu of a final exam, the last homework assignment will be due
at the scheduled time for the final exam: Tuesday, December 8, 7:30am.
