REGINA -- A former University of Regina professor is being honoured for his
contributions to mathematics education.
Harley Weston, who retired from the U of R's department of mathematics and
statistics in 2005, has been named as the recipient of the Canadian Mathematical
Society's (CMS) 2008 Adrien Pouliot Award. According to a statement released by
CMS, the award is in recognition of Weston's outreach to aboriginal communities
and his role in creating a Web site that aims to assist people struggling with
math problems.
Reached by telephone at Pasqua Lake Friday, Weston said the award was an
unexpected honour.
"It's kind of overwhelming ... I didn't even know I was nominated," he said. "It's
really wonderful to be recognized by your colleagues for something you've done."
