Endowed Professorship Environmental Turfgrass Science
Description: The Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, University of Georgia, Athens
Campus is seeking a distinguished faculty member with national and international
accomplishments for an appointment to an Endowed Professorship in Environmental
Turfgrass Science at the level of Associate or Full Professor. The position is 60%
Instruction, 40% Research academic appointment (nine-month). The successful
candidate is expected to develop instruction and research programs focused on turfgrass
management systems that not only enhance turfgrass quality but also minimize
environmental impacts. Instructional responsibilities will include teaching courses in
sports turf, turfgrass management, and advanced turfgrass science, coordinating turfgrass
internship programs, and serving as the academic advisor to turfgrass management
students and maintain an active graduate educational program including the development
of one graduate-level course in turfgrass science. Program focus could include but are
not limited to optimization of nutrient and/or water use in turfgrass systems, development
of systems for site and management-specific inputs, transport modeling of nutrients and
contaminants in natural and constructed turfgrass soil systems, and addition of soil
amendments to improve root growth and turfgrass performance. The successful
candidate must work cooperatively with UGA faculty and the statewide interdisciplinary
Turfgrass Team. The incumbent will be expected to secure extramural support.
