Summary: News & Notes August 27, 2007
John Snyder recently had another important
work published, an edition of Samuel
Coleridge-Taylor's Symphonic Variations on
an African Air, op. 68, released by A-R
Editions. Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912)
composed the work in 1906. His publisher,
Novello, made several copies of the score and
parts for rental, but never actually published
the work, and nearly all of the rental sets were
later destroyed. The publication now makes
the work available in a reliable, scholarly
edition.
Aaron Lington (BM '98 from the studio of
Karen Wylie) has been nominated for a
Rising Star Award by Downbeat Magazine.
He will also have some of his arrangements
on the soon to be released Count Basie
Orchestra recording.
