I was born on April 1st, 1955, studied mathematics at Hamburg University from
1976 to 1982 with one year in between at Cambridge University (UK) in 1978/79,
and graduated in 1982. In 1984, I received my Ph.D. in mathematics from Hamburg
University with a thesis in graph theory, dealing with the representation of abstract
groups by graphs (promoter: Prof. Dr. R. Halin).
From 1984 to 1992, I was a scientific assistant in computer science -- until 1985
at Hamburg University and then at the Technical University of Munich. In 1991, I
received my habilitation in theoretical computer science at the Technical University of
Munich with a thesis on ``Modular Construction and Partial Order Semantics of Petri
Nets''. Since 1992 I have been associate professor for theoretical computer science at
Augsburg University.
Since 1995 I have been on the editorial board of ``Information and Computa­
tion''. I was member of the programme committees for the following conferences and
workshops: CAAP 88; CONCUR 93, 96, 01 and 02; Int. Workshop ``Structures in
Concurrency Theory'' in 1995; Application and Theory of Petri Nets 98; Int. AMAST
