Summary: Shelley Marquez's tremendous impact on the research units she
has managed and her long-standing and dedicated service to the
University make her an ideal recipient for this year's Betsy Faught

Shelley serves as the business officer for three separate ORUs at
UCSD: the Center for Research in Language (CRL), the Institute for
Neural Computation (INC), and the Kavli Institute for Brain and
Mind (KIBM). In addition, Shelley has taken on the additional

Center.
Shelley's service to the campus began over 25 years ago at the
Scripps Institution of Oceanography where she spent over a decade
as an administrative assistant and then staff research associate
before moving to the general campus in 1995. Shelley's first
position in Academic Affairs was as business officer for both the
Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies (CILAS) and the Latin
American Studies master's program. In 1998, Shelley was promoted
to the position of business officer in CRL. Four years later, she
