Funding fisheries management
By definition, fisheries management is
"the manipulation of fish populations, human
users and fish habitat to provide sustainable
benefits to people."
That's harder -- and more expensive --
than it sounds.
Wise and effective management requires
extensive, ongoing research and diligent work
by biologists to ensure that regu-
lations, habitat manipulation
and fish stocking are working.
Paying for all that work is a
challenge, especially in these
economic times. Anglers should
know they fit most, if not all, of
the bill. Fishing license sales
fund a substantial portion of
