Halobacterium Genome Project
The Halobacterium NRC-1 genome project is funded by the National Science Foundation through a
collaborative research grant to Leroy Hood at the Institute for Systems Biology and Shiladitya
DasSarma at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Whole genome shotgun sequences were
successfully assembled into 3 circles using a novo Hide-and-seek approach on April 6, 2000. The
genome sequence was annotated by the Halobacterium genome consortium which included
additional research groups listed below.
Maqsudul Alam - University of Hawaii
Michael Danson - University of Bath
Patrick Dennis - University of British Columbia
Peter Jablonski - Northern Illinois University
Mark Krebs - University of Wisconsin
Mechthild Pohlshroder - University of Pennsylvania
John Spudich - University of Texas
Charles Daniels - Ohio State University
Monica Riley - Marine Biological Laboratory
Todd Lowe - Stanford University
