Registration and Waiting Lists
How do I crash a math class?
Unlike many departments, the undergraduate advisors, not the professors, handle waiting
lists for math courses. Our waitlists become available just before instruction begins for
the quarter, and are online: go to www.math.ucsb.edu and click on the waitlist link.
Don't forget to watch GOLD-if space opens up and you have a pass time, you should
grab it on your own. You should also check to see if another lecture or section has
been added.
Do you give the add codes out on a first-come-first-serve basis?
No, we do not! First, we check pre-requisites. Then, we check your schedule. The math
department works to accommodate everyone who needs a particular class by offering
multiple lectures, adding sections, etc., but we cannot accommodate everyone's preferred
schedule. If space is really tight, priority goes to those closest to graduating.
Do I need to check back later to see if I'm still on the list?
No, please don't! The only reason you would be off the list is if you didn't meet the
prerequisites, and if this is the case you will be notified by email.
How can I find out where I am on the list? You really can't. Since we don't make
assignments first-come-first-serve, it doesn't really matter. What matters is whether you
