Abstract. We review the results obtained to date by various groups
site-testing on the Antarctic plateau. To further these studies, we have
developed a suite of self-contained instruments for year-long site testing
on the Antarctic plateau. These instruments include a UV/visible sky
brightness and stellar spectrometer, a near-infrared sky-brightness mon-
itor, and a mid-infrared sky brightness monitor. To these we have added
a Remtech acoustic radar and a low-power version of the sub-millimeter
