Summary: News & Notes March 10, 2008
Andrew Davis and John Snyder delivered papers at
the Texas Society for Music Theory annual meeting
in San Marcos, Texas. Mr. Davis presented "Abbate's
Voices, Hatten's Levels, and Puccini's Cloak" in a
session on Music and Meaning. A session on Theory
and Practice featured Mr. Snyder's "Pseudo-Odo's
Eccentric Theories of Species and Contour: Two
Approaches to Pitch Relationships from Medieval
Italy." Also attending the meeting were Adam
Hudlow (Masters student), Ryan Gabbart (Masters
student - studio of Andrew Davis) Cory Tu (DMA,
2007 studio of Abbey Simon), and Tim Koozin.
The Moores School of Music will host the TSMT
meeting next year.
The Baylor University Symphonic Band premiered
Rob Smith's "Fuse" on March 6th
, with the composer
in attendance, and is one of twelve ensembles
throughout the country that commissioned the work.
