The following set of questions refer to the exercises from David Lay's textbook
on linear algebra on the back of this worksheet. Below they are ordered by how
we will do them in section and so that you do a few of each type of problem
before returning for more practice on "similar" exercises. At home, finish any
we do not complete in section.
1. What is the definition of a vector space?
2. Do problems 2 and 3.
3. Write the vector in problem 12 as scalar multiples of concrete vectors.
That is, put it in the "vector form" you used when solving systems of
linear equations. Answer problem 12. (You do not need to use Exercise
11.)
4. The function in number 19 is a solution to a differential equation. Do
problem 19.
5. Do the set of polynomials form a vector space?
