Summary: 1
Outline for Luther presentation to the University of Regina's Strategic Planning Facilitation
Team on March 10
1. Very brief overview of Luther College
- identity, vision, mandate--our pathway from the past to where we see ourselves going:
we are partners in higher education with UR; we are always reflecting on how best to be
a contributing partner and add value to the UR
- full academic integration with UR: LC students are UR students, degree from UR; 75%
of the students we teach aren't registered at Luther; our courses are UR courses, etc.; we
bring students to UR that might not otherwise come; they are UR students and alumni
- administrative independence, ELCIC owned
What is important to us: the context for formulating our recommendations to your
committee:
- strengths: interdisciplinary; small community within larger university; work
cooperatively with the three faculties of Arts, Fine Arts, Science; students moving among
Federated Colleges and UR; academic AND residence; chaplaincy, focus on students,
focus on the whole person (students and employees), non-hierarchical community
- identified in 2002 five academic themes on which to focus: environment, ethics, social
justice, reflection on values, international perspective--following the University's
strategic themes
