Dr. Charlotte Reading is a Professor with the University of Victoria in the new School of
Public Health and Social Policy in the Faculty of Human and Social Development. Dr.
Reading is an accomplished professor and Aboriginal health researcher with extensive
experience and expertise in such areas including Aboriginal health disparities, human
sexuality, women's health and HIV/AIDS. She is also a Research Affiliate with the Centre on
Aboriginal Health Research based at the University of Victoria. In 2009 she co-authored,
with Fred Wien, Health inequities and social determinants of Aboriginal Peoples' health.

The objective of this session is to explore the challenges and benefits of engaging academic
and non-academic research partners in the research process. This session will provide an
introduction to professional research skills such as project management, leadership,
