Summary: he group is located at the Physics Department of the University of Pisa and its activity
consists in the growth and optical characterization of new crystalline materials usually
Tdoped with rare earth ions for optoelectronic applications in various wavelength
regions from the UV to the infrared. The know-how of the group covers all possible aspects of
the preparation and characterization of materials: some furnaces can produce samples as
bulk crystals, or in the shape of crystal fibers using two different growth methods. The
samples are then oriented, cut and polished to laser tolerance for the optical
characterization in order to identify the most suitable materials for the desired application.
