Dr. David Cunado Senior Software Engineer,

Summary: Dr. David Cunado
Senior Software Engineer,
Nokia
- School of Electronics and Computer
Science
Alumnus Profile
Dr David Cunado first came to Southampton as an undergraduate
studying electronics on a four year master's course. He had not originally
intended to continue with postgraduate research: "I was just going to
apply for jobs and see what happened". That changed when one of his
lecturers asked him if he would be interested in a research project he was
developing. "I was approached by Mark Nixon saying I've got an idea for a
PhD; he basically sold it to me". Describing the decision to take up a
funded research position as "a last minute thing", David began a project
analysing people's walk to try to identify individual characteristics, and
graduated in 2000.
As a member of the University's rowing club, and living with medical
students from his third year onwards, David describes "a sense of
continuity" between his undergraduate and postgraduate life. "The social
part didn't change because a lot of people were still around who I knew".
