Summary: Lecturer in Modern Standard Arabic Position
The Arabic language program in the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and
Cultures at the University of Virginia invites applications for two full-time Lecturer positions in Modern
Standard Arabic, to begin August 25, 2012. Each position is a three-year position, eligible for renewal
contingent upon highly satisfactory performance. The teaching load is three courses per semester.
Required qualifications:
Native or near-native proficiency in Arabic, M.A. in Arabic language or a related field, strong
competence in Arabic grammar and fusha, knowledge of one or more Arabic dialects, and fluency in
English.
Preferred qualifications:
Ph.D. in Arabic language or a related field; demonstrated skill in second-language teaching; ability to
teach Arabic language classes at elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels; and ability to teach
other courses that contribute to the Arabic program.
