Developing plant pesticides for the twenty-first century
Biological scientist Dr Roland Fox may be retired, but he is still
interested in research and is now working on a book with fellow
academics. And the 65 year old's expert knowledge of trees is in
demand from neighbours in Cornwall anxious to improve the
management of woodland on their properties.
A busy career working with plant pesticides took him from the
University of Southampton to ICI in Berkshire and a spell in research in
North Carolina before he entered the world of academia at the
University of Reading.
"Trees had a part to play in my choice of university for my first degree.
I was brought up near Epping Forest and was impressed by how green
the campus at Southampton was," he explains. "Of course I also liked
the nearby Common and the New Forest as well."
