DEPARTMENT: Office of Advancement
TITLE: Executive Director, Development
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Vice-Principal (Advancement), the incumbent is an integral member of the leadership
team responsible for advancement activities at Queen's University. The incumbent's primary area of
responsibility is Development, which comprises the comprehensive campaign, central and faculty-based
major and annual gift fundraising, planned gifts, and donor stewardship. In this capacity, the incumbent is
responsible for the generation of revenue for the University through the following vehicles: philanthropic
donations, planned gifts, business partnerships, and sponsorships through the comprehensive campaign
and beyond. The incumbent develops and implements fundraising strategies to build and sustain
relationships with alumni, students, faculty/staff, governments, corporations, foundations, and not-for-
profit organizations, both in Canada and abroad in support of top institutional priorities. Internally, the
incumbent is actively involved in leadership activities for the university, participating in, and leading
institutional initiatives. As a senior member of the Advancement leadership team, the Executive Director,
Development participates in long-term planning for the Office of Advancement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advises the Vice-Principal (Advancement) on fundraising strategies in meeting the philanthropic
objectives of the University.
