Summary: CMPSCI 791N: Algorithms for Communication Networks
Seminar information: Fall 1999
Meetings:
TIME: Thursday, 2:30 4:30
PLACE: ARND 103
SCHEDULE NUMBER: 470726
Instructor: Micah Adler (email: micah@cs.umass.edu, office: A357, phone: 5452410).
Description: This seminar will explore algorithmic questions arising in the design of communica
tion networks and protocols. Participants will learn about existing algorithmic work in this area,
and also explore networking issues where algorithmic techniques may lead to interesting research
problems. Students will be expected to present papers during the lectures from a list provided by
the instructor. Topics to be covered include: compression and error correction, scheduling commu
nication with deadlines, reliable message delivery, adhoc wireless networks, and multicasting.
Prerequisites: Familiarity with the design and analysis of algorithms at an advanced undergrad
uate level.
Textbook: We shall be covering a series of papers, and thus there is no textbook for this course.
The papers are all available online via the course web page.
