Summary: News & Notes
Douglas Shadle (BM '04, Viola Performance from the studio of Law-
rence Wheeler) received his PhD in Musicology from the University of
North Carolina-Chapel Hill and is currently a lecturer in Music History
at the University of Louisville, KY. He will be a Visiting Assistant Pro-
fessor in Music History at Louisville next year.
Charles Carson (BME, 01) received a PhD in Music History from the
University of Pennsylvania. He taught at the University of Delaware
before joining the faculty of the University of Texas at Austin last year
as an Assistant Professor of Musicology.
The Inferno String Quartet (Seamus Dewsnap, Nina Sandberg, Ben-
jamin Zannoni and Erik Wheeler), all students at HSPVA, have been
awarded the silver medal in the St. Paul String Quartet Competition.
This national competition, with seven quartet finalists, was judged by
the Parker and the Pacifica string quartets. The group coached exten-
sively with MSM faculty Lawrence Wheeler, who accompanied them
to St. Paul. The Inferno String Quartet has also been invited to the Fis-
choff Chamber Music Competition.
