Summary: Bioengineering at UC Santa Barbara
Bioengineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UC Santa Barbara) has strong
interactive research efforts that focus on materials aspect of biology, chemistry, physics, and
engineering. With these underpinnings we have developed multi-faceted programs in the areas of
biomaterials, drug delivery, detection/diagnostic devices and systems biology.
The depth and strength of our bioengineering efforts has had a major national and international
impact on the translation of biology into biotechnical applications resulting in UCSB's research in
Bioengineering being highly sited and recognized.
Centers that comprise bioengineering research at UC Santa Barbara include:
Institute for Collaborative Biotechnologies (ICB)
Advanced nanostructured materials, sensor technologies, and bio-inspired networks research
