Charmed and beauty meson lifetimes have been measured using 2.75 fb -1 (D mesons) and 5.1 fb -1
(B mesons) of data collected with the Belle detector at KEKB. The results are #(B 0
) = (1.50 ±0.05±
0.07) ps, #(B - ) = (1.70 ± 0.06 +0.11
-0.10 ) ps, #(D 0 ) = (414.8 ± 3.8 ± 3.4) fs, #(D + ) = (1040 +23
-22 ± 18) fs
and # (D +
s ) = (479 +17
-16
+6
-8 ) fs, where the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic. The
lifetime ratios are measured to be #(B - )/#(B 0
) = 1.14±0.06 +0.06
-0.05 , # (D + )/#(D 0 ) = 2.51±0.06±0.04
