ABSTRACT
The vision of ubiquitous and continuous
communications for a mobile user entails several
emerging mobility types, which pose new requirements
for location management. In this paper, we present an
integrated approach for advanced location management
towards supporting all kinds of mobility types. After a
justification of our approach, we describe our
architectural considerations on a uniform network
architecture accommodating various mobility scenarios.
We propose integrated mobility servers for Mobile IP
and SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) to take advantage
of their complementary features in supporting mobility.
We also discuss the two major tasks of location
management: location updates and paging using
optimised signalling to reduce overheads and delay.
