formationabout self-motionin spacemay exhibit more
complextuning behaviour.Indeed,the spatialtuning of
many vestibular nuclei neurons receivingconvergent
semicircularcanalandotolith inputshavebeenfoundto
violatethe cosinerule and to exhibitdirectional-specific
responsephases(Bakeret al. 1984,1985;Angelakiet al.
1992,1993;Bush et al. 1993).The algebraictools to
describethis more generaltype of tuning behaviourof
a linear systemin responseto a directionally specific
sinusoidalinput haverecentlybeenintroduced(Angelaki
