ABSTRACT
In this paper, a new and efficient Markov chain
model for evaluating the performance of ATM
switching fabrics based on multistage switches with
2 \Theta 2 finite outputbuffered SEs is proposed. By
comparing the results obtained from the proposed
model, previous models and simulations, it has
been shown that the proposed model is much more
accurate than previous models in the presence of a
nonuniform traffic in the switch. The results from
the previous models are unsatisfactory in the pres
ence of an increased blocking in the switch arising
due to a nonuniform traffic in the switch. On the
contrary, the proposed model is very robust even
