PLAR Process: The PLAR process took two years. It began in May 2005 and credits were
officially approved January 2006. Shaun entered the Bachelor of Arts Education program in Fall
Number of credits received: 60 credit hours (combination of transfer and RPL/PLAR credit
BIO: Shawn Phillips is a registered professional counsellor, Focusing oriented
therapist and trainer and Focusing coordinator in training. Shaun works in
private practice and is currently working on his Masters in Counselling
Psychology at the University of British Columbia, Canada. Over the past ten
years Shaun has been developing a program used in elementary schools called
Youth for a Just Society- Our Voices: The power for Change. This unique
process integrates curriculum, the arts and Focusing techniques to engage
young learners and address trauma.
Q: How did you prove what you know?
A: I had a diploma in theatre arts (2 year fine arts program) and I had spent 2 years training in a
therapeutic program but none of that went toward the degree. For PLAR assessment I had to
