A SUBMISSION TO THE 2009 UNIVERSITY OF REGINA STRATEGIC PLANNING TEAM

Summary: A SUBMISSION TO THE 2009 UNIVERSITY OF REGINA
STRATEGIC PLANNING TEAM
Thank you for the opportunity to provide input for the University of Regina's current
strategic planning initiative. As Head of the Department of Psychology, I am pleased to
make the following submission, which is based on suggestions forwarded to me by
members of the Department. I have grouped these suggestions into the three broad
categories of Education, Research and Public Service, with specific recommendations
prefaced by a summary of current contributions of the Psychology Department in each of
these areas. In collating these various suggestions and recommendations, I have
attempted to do justice the views of everyone who forwarded comments, although I note
in advance that not everyone in the Department would put the same weight on the various
recommendations contained in this report. This submission should also be considered in
conjunction with those of five other psychology faculty members (Katherine Arbuthnott,
Gordon Asmundson, Heather and Thomas Hadjistavropoulos, and Chris Oriet), which
were submitted independently.
EDUCATION
The Department of Psychology offers fully comprehensive degree programs at the
undergraduate and graduate levels. Our undergraduate major and honors programs
emphasize a strong, comprehensive foundation in psychological studies, with the
possibility for students at the upper levels to focus on particular areas of the discipline.
